The National Safety and Transport Authority, NTSA has issued a press statement on the state of compliant Transport Network Companies. In the statement issued to newsrooms, only four have been licensed after complying with the Transport Network CompaniesRules, 2022.
The four companies are Yego Mobility Limited which is a new entrant in the Kenyan market operating the YEGO app, Little Limited which operates Little Cab App, Uber BV and Bolt Operations CU. One of the key regulations in the rules was the capping of commission charged by the companies at 18%. Uber and Bolt capped their Commission at the recommended 18%. Little Cab capped its commission at 15% while YEGO has announced that it will charge drivers a commission of 12%.
It is reported that there are about five (5) others that have applied for a license and are still being vetted by the NTSA to confirm compliance. Yesterday, the NTSA held a consultative meeting with the Transport Network Drivers and representatives from the Ministry of Transport on the implementation of the Transport Network CompaniesRules, 2022.
