The Kenya National Highway Authority (KENHA) has issued a further traffic advisory for motorists plying the Nairobi – Nakuru Highway and the Iten – Kabarnet Road. This comes less than 24 hours after the Authority issued a traffic advisory for motorists using the Nairobi-Mai Mahiu-Narok Highway.
KeNHA’s Advisory on Nairobi-Nakuru Highway
KENHA in the advisory has stated that there was an incident near Morendat Junction along the Naivasha-Gilgil Highway involving three vehicles: a trailer, an Isuzu truck, and a saloon vehicle, all headed towards Nakuru. Fortunately, there were no casualties or fatalities from the incident.
However, the incident led to a traffic build-up leading to overlapping causing even further traffic. The Authority reported that the traffic from Gilgil to Naivasha was blocked.
“KeNHA wishes to inform motorists plying the Nairobi – Nakuru Highway that there was an incident near Morendat Junction along the Naivasha-Gilgil Highway involving three vehicles: a trailer, an Isuzu truck, and a saloon vehicle, all headed towards Nakuru. No casualties or fatalities have been confirmed. The vehicles have currently been moved from the carriageway. As a result of the incident, there developed some traffic buildup.
This subsequently brought about overlapping which led to traffic from Gilgil towards Naivasha blocked. The police are currently on the section helping to manage traffic. KeNHA urges motorists to respect traffic police instructions and avoid overlapping as they clear the congestion.” read the advisory.
Iten – Kabarnet Road
KENHA has stated that there was a landslide along the Iten-Kabarnet road which has blocked the entire road near Tambach, about 14kms from Iten. This has been caused by the heavy rains that has continued to rock many parts of the country.
KENHA has advised motorists who can use alternative routes through Eldoret-Nyaru-Emsea-Kabarnet or Eldoret-Ravine-Kabarnet to do so.
The Authority has stated that a contractor is on-site to remove the debris on the road but the activity is being hampered by the ongoing rain causing near zero visibility around the area.
The much anticipated long rains are here with us. Given the intensity and ferocity of the downpour, this evening we have experienced a landslide along the Iten-Kabarnet road which has blocked the entire road near Tambach, about 14kms from Iten. The Performance-Based Contractors (PBC) for the road has mobilized machines to remove the debris, an exercise that is currently ongoing. The exercise has, however, been slightly hampered by the ongoing rainfall and the near zero visibility from Iten towards Kabarnet.
We hope to restore smooth flow of traffic the soonest time possible. In the meantime, motorists plying the route have been cautioned to be patient as they approach the scene. Those who can may use alternative routes through Eldoret-Nyaru-Emsea-Kabarnet or Eldoret-Ravine-Kabarnet.” read the statement.
We at www.spaceyamagari.com continue to urge motorists to drive with caution as they approach the said affected areas, and encourage them to use alternative routes.
