Irish Rally Driver, Craig Breen died on 13th April 2023 in a testing accident. His death comes ahead of next week’s Croatia Rally which he was poised to participate.
Hyundai Motorsport issued a statement on 13th April 2023 noting that they were saddened by Breen’s death following an accident during the pre-event test for the Croatia Rally. The statement further stated that his co-driver James Fulton escaped unhurt.
“Hyundai Motorsport is deeply saddened to confirm that driver Craig Breen today lost his life following an accident during the pre-event test for Croatia Rally. ” read part of the statement.
It is believed that Breen was driving a Hyundai i20 N Rally 1. It is also alleged that he went offroad during a team test on asphalt roads in Croatia. Further, it is alleged that the front left wheel of the vehicle collided with a pole.
WRC’s Statement on Craig’s Death
The World Rally Championship (WRC) issued a statement stating, “The WRC family is shocked and saddened to learn of Craig Breen’s passing. Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends of Craig at this incredibly sad time.”
