There is no love for Motorists this Valentine’s Day for motorists as the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has maintained the cost of fuel despite 0.12%, 4.76%, and 5.1% decreases in the landing cost for Petrol, Diesel, and Kerosene respectively.
In the review released on Tuesday for the period between 14th February and 14th March, EPRA has stated that in Nairobi, the cost of a litre of petrol will be retailing at Sh177.3 per litre, diesel Sh162 and kerosene Sh145.94. Please find EPRA’s statement of the prices below.
Over the past four months, fuel prices have remained largely unchanged. Many had hoped that with the inauguration of the new Government in September 2022, there would be changes. The fuel price reduction witnessed over this period has been in cents and have not exceeded One Kenyan Shilling.
Fuel Prices and the Dollar
Over the past few months, the Kenya Shilling has been declining as compared to the Dollar hence the high prices. Noteworthy is that EPRA in their calculations seem to be using a rate of Kenya Shillings 130 which is notably above the Central Banks of Kenya rate and as such, prices remain unchanged despite the decrease in landing cost.
