Isuzu Kenya has officially unveiled the Kipchoge Limited Edition D-Max Pickups. The company announced the plans last year in honor of marathon runner and Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge.
Only 159 units of the Kipchoge Limited Edition have been assembled numbered 001 to 159. Isuzu announced that Eliud Kipchoge would have the privilege of owning Kipchoge 001 with special consideration accorded to him should he wish to acquire another one of the Limited Edition.
159 emanates from the record time of 1:59:40 that Kipchoge clocked in a marathon organized by British chemicals firm INEOS becoming the first athlete to run a marathon in under two hours. Eliud has been Isuzu’s brand ambassador for over 10 years and has in the past stated that Isuzu has been part of the system that has helped him to walk and continues to encourage other corporates to follow Isuzu’s example and promote sports in the Country.
The unveiled 001 unit, is orange desert in color with blacked-out rims. The vehicle also incorporates the Kenyan flag emblem on the front grill and 5 signatures of Kipchoge including on the front left fender. Going by the observation, these will be some of the stock features of the vehicle including the color. The Eliud Kipchoge Limited Edition D-Max incorporates a 3.0L turbo-diesel, common rail, mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission churning 140kW and 450Nm of torque.
The vehicle is expected to retail at a higher price than the ordinary D-max which currently retails at around 8.7 Million and will be sold on a first-come-first-served basis. It is projected to cost anything between 9.3 to 9.5 million and there are reports that around 20 prospective buyers have already booked their units. Each buyer of the limited edition D-Max will have their name engraved in the centre console.
