The Kenya National Highway Authority (KENHA) has this afternoon issued an update on the progress of the repair of the Narok – Mai Mahiu Highway. The highway had been temporarily closed on Sunday after cracks appeared on the road suspected to have been caused by the ongoing heavy rains.
KENHA has been onsite conducting repair works on the road after the crack appeared. The Authority has stated that the team doing the restorations has been working day and night to ensure that the road is open to traffic as soon as possible. Roads Principal Secretary Eng. Joseph Mbugua and KeNHA Director General, Kungu Ndungu visited the site and assured that based on the current rate of progress, the road is expected to be opened by the end of Tuesday 2nd May 2023.
KENHA’s Statement
“Further to the announcement yesterday on the temporary road closure due to the ongoing rains, restoration works have been authorised day and night with a target to reopen the Road by tomorrow afternoon. The Authority hereby notifies the public that the restoration works are in top gear and the team on site has been instructed to work day and night to ensure that the road is open to traffic as soon as possible.” read part of the statement.
The Authority had advised motorists to use alternative routes. In the statement, two routes are listed that is; Narok – Kisiriri – Mau Summit – Njoro turn off (B 18) Road, to join Nakuru and other destinations. The second one is Narok – Bomet – Kaplong (B6) Road to connect to Kaplong – Kericho (B7) Road.
