President Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday 30th July 2022 officially commissioned the Nairobi Expressway.
This comes barely 24 hours after Umoja Expressway Company which manages the multimillion infrastructure announced that the road would be out of bounds for motorists from Saturday 30th July 2022 until officially commissioned.
‘Solid and functional infrastructure is a key to realizing the dream of transforming our standing in the community of nations and our pursuit for better livelihoods.’ read part of the statement issued by the President.
Kenya heads into the election in about 8 or so days and with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s term coming to an end, he has been keen to leave a legacy of improved infrastructure which was part of his Big 4 Agenda.
The road is expected to reduce traffic jams on Mombasa Road, Waiyaki Way, Uhuru Highway, and adjacent roads. The President also added that “The Nairobi Expressway complements the expansion of the James Gichuru-Rironi road as well as feeding into the newly built Eastern and Western Bypass.’
