The Kenya National Highway Authority (KENHA) has issued a traffic advisory for motorists plying the Nairobi-Mai Mahiu-Narok Highway. This is after the ongoing heavy rains eroded part of the road.
In its statement, the authority said that there is an ongoing clearance on the road and advised them to use alternative routes to reach their destination. Motorists have been advised to use Narok – Kisiriri – Nakuru Road and Mai Mahiu – Nakuru Roads.
KENHA’s Statement
“Motorists plying or planning to use the Nairobi – Mai Mahiu – Narok Highway are informed of an ongoing clearance of the overburden after last night’s heavy rainfall which resulted in flooding and extensive deposition of eroded material on the road from Mai Mahiu towards Narok and 6KM from Duka Moja…”
“To enable better traffic flow, KeNHA urges motorists to use Narok – Kisiriri – Nakuru Road and Mai Mahiu – Nakuru Road. Motorists are further advised to exercise caution as they drive through this area, especially at night and when it’s raining.” read the statement.
Currently, the Authority has deployed workers to help clear the road. An excavator is also on sight as it helps clear the road in an attempt to have normalcy on the road. It is however not clear how long the exercise will take as the rains continue in several parts of the country.
This is not the first time that the road is being eroded by heavy rains paralyzing transport along the road. The same has occurred over the past years including in 2018, paralyzing transport for days as in the tweet below by Odhiambo Ogola.
