⚠️ ACCIDENTS CAN BE PREVENTED.

👋 Hello there, let me share with you an incident that happened yesterday.

I believe that you’ll learn something along the way.

Here is what really happened…🧵

It was 07:30 PM, a rainy night and we closed our shop and it’s usual to see traffic jams on our roads, as everyone is in a hurry to go home after a long day of work.

As I was walking through the bus stand, I saw a car fastly approaching me and it was kind of reckless driving, because why would one drive a car at that speed within a city? (I wondered) I moved away from its path and let it go its way.

Then out of a sudden we heard BOOM! Then, followed by alarms and people’s shouts, I turned back to see what happened…

The inevitable happened, that car collided with the incoming traffic and it seriously damaged it (I’m grateful that no one was injured).

Since I was in a hurry to go home, and no one was seriously injured.

I didn’t stop walking but such an incident led me to think a lot about it,

I thought...”are road accidents preventable?”

This question, has inspired me to write this article to you.

The following are the causes of road accidents:

1. Distracted Driving.

It’s believed that there are people who can do multitasking. But don’t ever try to multitask when you’re driving…

Multitasking is a situation whereby you can perform a certain task while engaging yourself with other tasks at the same time.

As a driver, you need to be attentive when you drive and avoid any distractions as they may lead to accidents.

2. Speeding.

I guess this won’t be the first or the last time to see the phrase “Speed Kills”

Yes, speeding can lead to fatal accidents that could be easily preventable. like the one that happened yesterday, if he wasn’t speeding, he wouldn’t bump into the incoming vehicle.

💡Observe speed limits of the specified area for example in the cities it’s 30-50kph and on the highway it’s 70-80kph.

3. Driving Under the Influence (DUI)

Driving while you’re drunk, or intoxicated. This is one among traffic offenses; it can result in imprisonment or fines as well as revoking your driving licence.

According to figures shared by Worldometer as for 2022 there have been 741,325 deaths caused by road accidents.

Please Don’t drink and drive because it can lead to accidents, fatal injuries and even deaths.

4. Reckless Driving.

Reckless driving is a serious traffic offense whereby the driver of the vehicle disregards the rules of the road, driving very dangerously, causing accidents or other damages.

I believe that you’ve seen drivers who are always in a hurry, they overtake anywhere  without considering anything at all.

Don’t be part of the notorious drivers and follow the rules and regulations as required. (One day we will talk in detail about this one too)

5. Conditions of our roads.

Let’s be fair and square here… Most of our roads are not in required standards as you’ll notice potholes and lack of important traffic signs. Such conditions can lead to occurrence of accidents.

Just imagine you’re at the highway and you’re driving 80kph then you notice that your front tire is burst due to a pothole… it’s a risky incident and it might lead to fatal injuries or even deaths.

I would like to advice our respective governments to ensure safety and wellbeings of our drivers by well maintaining our roads.

Here’s a quick recap of what we covered today.

  1. Distracted driving.
  2. Speeding.
  3. Driving Under the Influence.
  4. Reckless Driving.
  5. Conditions of our roads.

It’s true that accidents can be prevented if we follow rules and regulations and  protect yourself and protect other motorists, cyclists as well as pedestrians.

Ensure their safety and you’ll be safe too. It starts with me…
