Isuzu East Africa Terminates 5 Decade Dealership Partnership with Associated Motors

#SpaceYaMagari

Isuzu East Africa has formally announced the cessation of its long standing dealership partnership with Associated Motors Limited in what seems to be a significant shift within Kenya’s Commercial automotive retail landscape. The announcement, communicated through an official public notice, brings to a close a relationship that has spanned nearly five decades and one that has been instrumental in building Isuzu’s footprint across the region.

Isuzu East Africa Press Statement

“For nearly five decades, Isuzu East Africa and Associated Motors have shared a valuable partnership dedicated to serving customers across the region. We acknowledge and appreciate the long standing contribution they have made to the Isuzu EA network and for the many customers they have supported over the years.” read part of the statement.

Isuzu East Africa – Associated Motors Relationship

For nearly five decades, Associated Motors Limited has been a cornerstone of Isuzu East Africa’s dealer network, playing a pivotal role in the distribution, servicing, and customer support of Isuzu vehicles across Kenya and the wider East African region.

Isuzu recognized this legacy in its statement, describing the relationship as a “valuable partnership” and acknowledging the dealer’s contribution to both the brand and its customers over the years. This acknowledgement highlights the critical role independent dealer networks have historically played in scaling automotive brands within emerging markets.

Isuzu has long maintained a dominant position in Kenya’s commercial vehicle segment, underpinned by its strong local assembly operations and extensive dealer network. According to data from the Kenya Motor Industry Association (KMIA), in 2021, Isuzu East Africa recorded a standout performance with the Isuzu FRR, selling over 1,500 units.

This marked the highest sales figure for a single locally assembled model in Kenya that year, reinforcing Isuzu’s status as a backbone in the country’s transport and logistics sector.

What This Means for Customers

From a consumer standpoint, the transition appears structured to minimize disruption. Isuzu has confirmed that all customers previously served by Associated Motors will be absorbed into its existing dealer network.

“Customers previously served by Associated Motors will be transitioned to our current dealer network to ensure uninterrupted support.” read another part of the statement. Operationally, this implies that customers who previously acquired their Isuzu units via Associated Motors will continue to access servicing and maintenance including warranty support from other Isuzu dealers.

For Isuzu, which remains a dominant player in Kenya’s commercial vehicle segment, maintaining service continuity will be critical. Customer confidence in aftersales support often outweighs initial purchase considerations, particularly in fleet and utility applications.

As the dust settles, attention will likely turn to how effectively the existing dealer network absorbs this change. Further, details remain unclear as to whether Associated Motors is winding down its operations or intends to remain in the commercial vehicles segment, potentially under a different brand. Associated Motors has not confirmed whether it is winding up operations or undertaking strategic repositioning and/or diversification.
