The Kenya Urban Roads Authority has extended the traffic disruptions along the Eastern By-pass announced earlier on Sunday 29th January 2023.

In another press release dated 31st January 2023, KURA indicated that there will be a disruption of normal traffic flow along the Eastern bypass from Thursday 2nd February 2023 6:00 a.m. to Friday 3rd February 2023 6:00 p.m. The notice stated that the disruption would be necessary to allow the contractor to lay the final surface dressing at the section between Embakassi Barracks and China Road and Bridge Corporation CRBC Kenya site camp.

This was the same section that had necessitated the earlier disruption from Monday 30th January 2023 at 6:00 a.m. to Wednesday 1st February at 6:00 p.m.

“Motorists are advised to drive with caution as they approach the section.” Read part of the statement. Further, KURA stated that there will be traffic marshalls at the concerned section to guide motorists and ensure a smooth flow of traffic.

The earlier disruption caused massive traffic snarl-ups and inconveniences with some motorists expressing their frustration at the slow pace of the contractor.

While responding to a Twitter user’s comment who expressed frustration over the extension of the traffic disruption, KURA indicated that the contractor has already done surface dressing on one lane, and was now on the second lane urging him to be patient.

Eastern By-Pass Dualing

Dualling of the Eastern by-pass was commissioned by immediate former President H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta to reduce the traffic along the said road and was initially expected to be completed by January 2023. The Kenya Urban Roads Authority has stated that it is on course to complete the dualling of the road.
